Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader Hon. Oburu Odinga has broken his silence following remarks by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who challenged him to convene a National Delegates Convention (NDC) and allow youthful leaders to take over the party’s leadership.
Speaking during a function in the Nyanza region that was attended by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and several senior ODM leaders, Oburu appeared visibly firm as he addressed the growing debate within the party.
He stated that he is fully prepared to call for an NDC meeting to deliberate on the contentious issues currently facing ODM, noting that nothing is stopping him from doing so.

Oburu dismissed claims that he is a weak or transitional leader, insisting that he is not a pushover as some critics suggest.
He maintained that he has the experience, legitimacy, and capacity to steer the party forward during this critical period, adding that he fears no individual or faction within ODM.
His remarks come days after Babu Owino publicly dared Oburu to convene the NDC, vowing to challenge his leadership position should the meeting be called.
The exchange has sparked intense debate among ODM supporters, with some backing generational change while others rally behind Oburu’s leadership.
The unfolding standoff signals rising internal tensions as ODM grapples with its future direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
