Former Lugari Member of Parliament Honorable Cyrus Jirongo was laid to rest at his rural home in Lumakanda, Lugari Constituency, in a ceremony attended by top political leaders, family members, and residents from across the region.
Jirongo, who served Lugari for two terms, was remembered as a bold politician and influential mobilizer whose contribution to national politics left a lasting mark.
Jirongo tragically lost his life following a grisly road accident on the Nairobi–Naivasha Highway, just minutes after reportedly making a turn at a petrol station.
His sudden death shocked the country and sparked widespread mourning, especially in Western Kenya where he commanded significant respect.
During the burial ceremony, National Assembly Speaker Honorable Moses Masika Wetangula revealed new details regarding President William Ruto’s intervention immediately after Jirongo’s passing.

Wetangula told mourners that leaders close to the late MP reached out to the President to brief him on several unresolved matters affecting Jirongo and his vast properties.
According to Wetangula, President Ruto responded promptly and compassionately. He reportedly directed that immediately after the burial, Jirongo’s three widows be escorted to State House for a formal meeting.
The aim of the meeting, Wetangula explained, was to discuss and find lasting solutions to challenges surrounding the late politician’s estate, including property-related issues and other pending concerns.
The revelation drew mixed reactions among mourners, with some praising the President for showing concern to the bereaved family, while others viewed the move as a significant political gesture recognizing Jirongo’s stature in national affairs.
Several leaders present at the funeral called for unity within the family and urged the government to ensure that the matter is handled with sensitivity and fairness.
As the country continues to mourn Cyrus Jirongo, attention now shifts to the anticipated State House meeting and the outcomes expected to shape the future of his family and legacy.
