President William Ruto on Sunday sparked fresh political debate after making pointed remarks about former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a church service and subsequent public address in Gatundu North Constituency, Kiambu County.
The Head of State attended the church service accompanied by several Kenya Kwanza leaders who took turns praising his administration, particularly for what they described as a strong focus on development in the Mount Kenya region.
During the service, the presiding bishop openly endorsed President Ruto, declaring that he deserved a second term due to his commitment to serving wananchi and delivering key projects.
Addressing residents after the church service, President Ruto dismissed claims by the opposition that his frequent tours of the Mount Kenya region were politically motivated.
He stated that he was duly elected by Kenyans and that his responsibility was to ensure development promises were fulfilled across the country.

In remarks seen as a direct attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto questioned whether leaders should focus on what he termed as “politics of tribalism” or concentrate on tangible development projects.
Turning to the crowd, the President asked residents to choose between divisive politics and development-driven leadership.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Kiambu residents responded loudly, chanting in favor of development.
The crowd appeared to endorse the President’s message, signaling their preference for roads, jobs, affordable housing, and economic empowerment over political rivalries.
The exchange has fueled online discussions, with supporters arguing that the President is right to prioritize development, while critics accuse him of using public forums to settle political scores with his former deputy.
The Gatundu North visit comes amid heightened political activity in the Mount Kenya region, widely viewed as a critical voting bloc ahead of the 2027 General Election. As political temperatures continue to rise, Ruto’s message in Kiambu suggests that development will remain a central theme of his engagement with the region.
