In a surprising move, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has sent a message to the Luhya community that they should unite behind President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid or lose altogether the next government.
Today, during his aunt’s burial, the late Mayi Ritah Nafula Mutaki in Mukhweya, Bungoma County, the Speaker broke the traditional mourning rituals to give the hard-hitting political directive.
Wetang’ula depicted the 2027 elections as a “make or break” point for the Mulembe tribe. He was of the view that the only “sure way” to protect the community’s position in the national government and to facilitate the release of the delayed development projects is to cast a total bloc vote for the Kenya Kwanza government.

“Backing President Ruto is not merely a political option; it is a strategic move that should bridge the community’s leadership aspirations, which are already very old,” Wetang’ula made it clear.
In an attack that hurt most of his opponents, the Speaker stated that the shifting of the political scene is something that has already happened.
He said that there are certain big personalities who once were at the forefront in opposing the President with all their might but have now ‘seen the light,’ and so they are either secretly or openly joining the government side with their communities in order not to be ‘cooled’ by the opposition after 2027.
