In a highly political move that may significantly alter the power dynamics in Western Kenya. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has taken the initiative of persuading Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya to join the Ruto camp. Which is a very decisive action to get the support of the region before the 2027 elections.
Lusaka, who is also the presidential re-election coordinator for the Western Region, is working very hard to get Natembeya into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Making President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition stronger in a province that has been regarded as politically split for a long time.
The political push really took off after Lusaka had a meeting with Members of County Assembly from Trans Nzoia at his house in Kamukuywa. During the gathering, the governor asked the MCAs to use their grassroots networks to convince Natembeya to cooperate with the government since he was using the idea of unity as a condition for faster development.
Lusaka cautioned that the infighting within the region has led to a reduction of ability to negotiate from the side of Western Kenya, resulting in a delay of big projects connected with infrastructure and economy despite continuing promises from the national administration.
“Trans Nzoia cannot be left out,” he said to the local chiefs, supporting his claim that the togetherness of the politicians is vital for getting the support of the national government.
Analysts View a Calculated Move Before 2027
Political scientists view the Lusaka-Natembeya relations as a clever move to diminish the impact of opposition in the election area rich in Western votes. Natembeya, who is seen as a strong opponent of Kenya Kwanza, enjoys vast support at the grassroots level; therefore, his transferring would make it a political turning point.
If Natembeya moves to Ruto’s side, the specialists believe it will set off a chain reaction among the counties of Western, which will result in a change of political interests at both the regional and national levels.
Natembeya Has Not Yet Responded as the Stakes Get Higher
Natembeya’s silence on the overtures is not being missed by the public, but his eventual choice is already said to be affecting the whole country, since it will decide the direction of coalition forming and the positioning of the opposition in the run-up to 2027.
