Tension is rising in the Western Kenya political arena after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi issued a stern warning to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya over his continued push for the TAWE Movement.
For months, the first-term governor has been urging residents across the region to shift away from what he terms as “stagnant leadership” under National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and PCS Mudavadi. According to Natembeya, the two senior leaders have allegedly focused more on personal political gain than championing development for the wider community.
Speaking on Saturday in Malava Constituency during a campaign rally for Hon. Ndakwa, Mudavadi cautioned Natembeya against what he described as reckless political adventurism.
The Prime CS said the people of Trans Nzoia were “more than ready” to challenge Natembeya’s leadership should he continue attacking Western region kingpins.

“Mzee Natembeya must go slow. He is a greenhorn in national politics, and this speed he is using will mislead him,” Mudavadi declared, warning that voters could easily unite to send the governor home in the next election cycle.
His remarks come just hours after Natembeya’s convoy was reportedly attacked in Kabuchai, Bungoma County, where he had gone to drum up support for independent candidate Eric Wekesa. The incident has escalated political tensions, with Natembeya’s allies condemning the violence and calling for investigations.
Analysts say the growing friction signals a deeper competition for political influence in the region ahead of 2027. While Natembeya continues to position TAWE as a fresh alternative leadership voice, key figures like Mudavadi and Wetang’ula appear determined to contain the rising wave.
As the battle for Western Kenya’s political direction intensifies, residents now watch closely to see how the unfolding rivalry will shape alliances and development debates.
