Githunguri Member of Parliament Honorable Gathoni Wamuchomba has sparked mixed reactions online after issuing a bold warning to President William Ruto over his political fortunes in the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with a local media station in a video that has since circulated widely on social media, the outspoken legislator cast doubt on President Ruto’s chances of enjoying massive support from Mount Kenya, as was the case during the 2022 polls.
Wamuchomba, who is widely viewed as a key political voice in the region and a possible contender for the Kiambu County gubernatorial seat, claimed that the region has already made up its mind politically.
According to the MP, President Ruto should “stop bothering” Mount Kenya residents, arguing that the community has moved on from him politically.
She asserted that once the region reaches a collective decision, it becomes nearly impossible to reverse it, regardless of political persuasion or development incentives.

“When Mount Kenya decides, no amount of goodies or promises can change their hearts,” Wamuchomba said, in remarks that have drawn both praise and criticism from different quarters.
Her comments come amid growing signs of unease within sections of the Mount Kenya leadership, with some leaders accusing the Kenya Kwanza administration of sidelining the region despite its overwhelming support in 2022.
Rising economic pressures and unfulfilled campaign promises have also been cited as contributing factors to the shifting political mood.
When pressed to reveal her preferred presidential candidate for 2027, Wamuchomba remained guarded. She said she would share that information “at the right time,” but was categorical that President Ruto would not be her choice.
The remarks have ignited debate online, with some netizens applauding her for speaking candidly on behalf of the region, while others accused her of engaging in early political posturing.
As the 2027 race slowly takes shape, Wamuchomba’s warning signals potential turbulence for President Ruto in a region once considered his political stronghold.
