A dramatic moment unfolded in Taita Taveta on Tuesday after a rhino briefly charged toward President William Ruto’s dais, causing visible panic among members of his security team.
The Head of State was presiding over the official opening of a new rhino sanctuary, a move aimed at boosting conservation efforts and enhancing wildlife tourism in the region.
President Ruto, flanked by top government officials and his presidential security, stood on the dais as wildlife officials released a rhino from a transport container into the expansive park.
Instead of sprinting straight into the wilderness as expected, the powerful animal abruptly turned toward the President’s direction, prompting a brief but intense moment of alarm.
Bodyguards quickly shifted into defensive mode, with some stepping forward in readiness as the rhino appeared to move closer.
The tension lasted only a moment, however, as the animal soon changed course and galloped into the nearby bushes, restoring calm among the security detail and guests.
