National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula is facing mounting political pressure in Bungoma County and the wider Western region, raising questions about his grip on regional politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Once viewed, alongside Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, as an unshakable kingpin in Western Kenya, recent events suggest that Wetangula’s influence may be waning.
The latest trouble comes barely weeks after Wetangula’s Ford Kenya party suffered a humiliating defeat in the Chwele Kabuchai ward by-election, where independent candidate Eric Wekesa emerged victorious.
The loss was widely interpreted as a protest vote against established political figures and a warning sign for traditional parties in the region.
Now, a fresh accusation has intensified the political storm. Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke has openly accused Speaker Wetangula of allegedly blocking President William Ruto from attending a public function in Sirisia constituency.
Speaking angrily in a video that has since gone viral online, Waluke claimed that the Head of State had shown indications he was willing to attend the event, only for the visit to be frustrated.

According to Waluke, Wetangula and individuals close to him allegedly advised President Ruto not to attend the Sirisia function on grounds that they had not been consulted.
The outspoken MP described the move as political sabotage and an attempt to control access to the President for personal and party interests.
Waluke went further to issue a stern warning, predicting a politically volatile 2027 election that could see Ford Kenya decisively rejected by voters. He claimed that grassroots leaders and residents were increasingly frustrated with what he termed as “political gatekeeping” by senior leaders.
As these accusations continue to circulate, Wetangula now finds himself under intense scrutiny, with political analysts suggesting that the unfolding drama could significantly reshape Bungoma and Western Kenya politics as the race to 2027 gathers momentum.
