Kitale, Kenya – A tense standoff unfolded at the Kitale home of the late Lugari MP, Honorable Cyrus Jirongo, as his body was being transported from Nairobi.
The procession, which was expected to proceed smoothly, was briefly halted when two factions clashed over traditional burial procedures and family protocols.
Upon arrival at Kitale Airstrip, one group insisted that Jirongo’s body should not enter the house immediately, citing Tiriki community customs.
According to tradition, they argued, the body should pass through the fence before entering the main compound, especially given the circumstances surrounding his death, which some consider questionable.
However, another faction, led by former Westlands MP Fred Gumo, opposed the move. Gumo stressed that Jirongo was a family man and deserved to have his body enter through the main gate.
He urged the Tiriki community representatives to respect the family’s wishes and allow them to follow their own funeral procedures.

The body is expected to spend the night at the Kitale residence before being transported to Lugari for the final burial on December 30, 2025, next to his parents, in accordance with his wishes.
Meanwhile, investigations into the circumstances of Jirongo’s death continue. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has intensified efforts, interviewing multiple individuals to establish the cause of death.
