President William Ruto has broken his silence over claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that the Social Health Authority (SHA) is on the verge of collapse.
Speaking in Nairobi, the Head of State dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically driven, maintaining that the government’s health insurance reforms remain stable and beneficial to Kenyans.
His remarks come days after Gachagua, while addressing residents in Makueni County, alleged that billions of shillings were being siphoned from the scheme through proxy individuals.
Gachagua claimed he had received intelligence reports indicating widespread misuse of funds within the system, warning that the SHA could collapse within six months if urgent action is not taken.

His statements have since sparked debate across the political landscape, drawing reactions from leaders and the public alike.
However, President Ruto strongly refuted the claims, accusing his former deputy of spreading misinformation.
The President went further to question the credibility of Gachagua’s sources, alleging that he was relying on unverified claims rather than expert advice.
“Those making such allegations are misinformed and are not consulting professionals. Instead, they are listening to people who do not understand how the system works,” Ruto said.
He reaffirmed that the SHA is one of the government’s key achievements in transforming healthcare access, noting that millions of Kenyans are already benefiting from the program.
According to the President, the reforms are designed to ensure affordability, efficiency, and transparency in the health sector.
Ruto urged leaders to focus on constructive engagement and avoid statements that could undermine public confidence in critical national programs.
The exchange highlights growing political tensions between the two leaders, even as the government pushes forward with its ambitious healthcare agenda.
