Siaya County Governor James Orengo has launched a fresh political attack on President William Ruto, alleging that a key misstep in the Nyanza region could cost him re-election in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Kirinyaga County during the burial of a former senator, Orengo claimed that the President’s failure to honor commitments made to the region has significantly eroded his support base. In a video that has since sparked widespread debate, the governor insisted that Ruto is on track to become a one-term president.

Orengo pointed to the political cooperation between Ruto and the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, noting that their agreement was anchored on a ten-point agenda meant to address key development and governance issues. However, according to the Siaya governor, none of the agreed items have been fully implemented.

“The people of Nyanza had expectations when the two leaders came together. Those promises have not been fulfilled,” Orengo stated, adding that the region feels sidelined despite its strategic political significance.

He further accused the President of failing to deliver on promises of major development projects in Nyanza, arguing that the perceived neglect has created growing dissatisfaction among residents. Orengo warned that this could translate into a decisive political backlash at the ballot.

The governor’s remarks come at a time when political alignments are beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls, with leaders increasingly positioning themselves to influence voter sentiment across key regions.

While State House has yet to respond directly to Orengo’s claims, the remarks are likely to intensify political debate over the government’s development record and its relationship with Nyanza.
