The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader, Honorable Godfrey Osotsi, has broken his silence on the growing divisions within the party, outlining what he termed as the only viable path for ODM’s survival in the post–Raila Odinga era.
His remarks come amid heightened political tension following the emergence of two rival factions within the party, sparking debate among supporters and the wider Kenyan public.
ODM has recently been rocked by internal disagreements over its future political direction, particularly on whether the party should continue cooperating with President William Ruto’s administration beyond the 2027 General Election.
One faction, led by National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, is advocating for sustained engagement with the government.
The opposing camp, associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo, is calling for a thorough re-evaluation of the party’s position before committing to any long-term political alignment.

Speaking during a public event in remarks captured on video and widely shared online, Osotsi argued that ODM risks weakening itself further if discipline and order are not restored at the top leadership level. According to the Vihiga Senator, the party can only survive if communication is streamlined and authority respected.
Osotsi stated that only the party leader, Dr. Oburu Odinga, and the Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, should be allowed to speak on behalf of ODM.
He emphasized that allowing multiple leaders to issue statements has created confusion, fueled factionalism, and undermined the party’s unity at a critical moment in its history.
“The survival of ODM depends on discipline. If everyone speaks for the party, then the party loses direction,” Osotsi said. He added that giving the two top officials space to address the nation would help stabilize the party, reassure supporters, and clarify ODM’s political stance going forward.
His remarks have triggered mixed reactions, with some party members backing the proposal, while others argue that inclusivity and internal debate are essential as ODM navigates life without its longtime leader, Raila Odinga.
