Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has finally broken his silence over his conspicuous absence at the funeral of the late Lugari Member of Parliament, Honorable Cyrus Jirongo, an event that drew top political leaders from across the country.
His absence had sparked widespread speculation, with early reports alleging that the outspoken governor had been involved in a road accident.
The claims were first made public by one of his County Executive Committee (CEC) members, Gumo, who told mourners that Governor Natembeya was recovering after an accident.
The statement quickly gained traction online, fueling concern among his supporters and prompting intense discussion on social media and local media platforms.
However, while speaking during the finals of his annual football tournament held in Kwanza Constituency, Governor Natembeya set the record straight.
In a candid address captured on video, the governor dismissed reports of a car accident, terming them inaccurate and misleading.
According to Natembeya, the incident occurred at his office during the Christmas period after he had addressed residents who had gathered to celebrate the festive season with him.

He explained that while alighting from the top of his vehicle, he landed awkwardly, twisting his toe in the process. The injury, though painful, was not serious enough to warrant panic.
“I want to assure everyone that it was not a road accident as has been alleged. I simply landed the wrong way and injured my toe,” Natembeya clarified, urging the public to remain calm about his health.
The governor added that he is now recovering well and has since resumed his public duties. His clarification appears aimed at quelling rumors and reaffirming transparency, a trait that has defined his leadership style.
Natembeya also took the opportunity to pay tribute to the late Cyrus Jirongo, describing him as a seasoned leader whose contribution to Kenya’s political landscape will be remembered.
