Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna is facing renewed political pressure following fresh allegations linking him to an alleged plot to destabilize the party during a period when party leader Raila Odinga was still actively in charge.
Sifuna, who has recently come under criticism from sections of the party for opposing the broad-based government arrangement between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga, is now at the center of claims suggesting he was previously used by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in an attempt to influence ODM’s internal leadership.
Speaking in Siaya County during a widow empowerment program organized by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, political activist Oketch Sella claimed that Uhuru Kenyatta once reached out to Raila Odinga after Sifuna gave a hard-hitting interview on Citizen TV with journalist Yvonne Okwara.
In the interview, Sifuna strongly criticized the broad-based government and threatened to quit ODM should the party support President Ruto’s re-election bid.

According to Sella, Uhuru allegedly praised Sifuna during the phone call, a move that reportedly raised alarm within ODM’s top leadership.
Sella claimed Raila was angered by the call and allegedly concluded that Sifuna was being positioned as a political “mole” to weaken the party from within.
“These actions made it clear that some external forces were trying to capture ODM using young, outspoken leaders,” Sella alleged, cautioning party supporters against trusting Sifuna’s political ambitions.
Sella urged ODM members and supporters in Nyanza to rally behind Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, whom he described as a loyal and dependable pillar of the party.
While Sifuna has not publicly responded to the latest claims, the allegations add to mounting pressure on the outspoken senator as internal debates continue within ODM over unity, loyalty, and the party’s future political direction.
