The death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Honorable Cyrus Jirongo has continued to stir public debate, with fresh demands by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua igniting mixed reactions across the country.
Jirongo passed away following a road accident, but conflicting accounts surrounding the incident have fueled growing calls for clarity and accountability.
In a video that has since circulated widely online, Gachagua, accompanied by leaders from the United Opposition, visited Jirongo’s rural home to condole with the family. While addressing mourners, Gachagua raised concerns over what he termed as “disturbing gaps” in the narrative surrounding the fatal crash.
He demanded that individuals who were with Jirongo shortly before his death, including those who held his last meetings or conversations, should publicly come forward to shed light on what transpired.
According to Gachagua, the continued silence from some key figures has only deepened suspicion among Kenyans.

He argued that Jirongo was a prominent national figure whose death deserves a transparent and thorough explanation.
“When stories keep changing, Kenyans are left to speculate,” Gachagua said, adding that truth would help the family and the nation find closure.
Since the tragic incident, varying versions of events have emerged. The driver of a Climax bus involved in the accident claimed that Jirongo’s vehicle joined the highway from a petrol station on the wrong side of the road, forcing the bus to swerve to avoid a slow-moving vehicle before the collision occurred.
However, a watchman at the petrol station disputed this account, insisting there was no traffic jam at the time. He further claimed that the bus hit Jirongo’s car and dragged it for nearly 100 meters before it came to a stop.
These contradictory statements have divided public opinion. While some Kenyans support Gachagua’s call for all witnesses to speak out, others caution against politicizing a tragic loss. As investigations continue, the nation awaits a clear, official account to finally put lingering questions to rest.
