Ford Kenya Party leader and Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, is facing a major political storm in his home turf of Bungoma County just weeks before the crucial November 27 Chwele–Kabuchai Ward by-election.
The by-election, which many have described as a litmus test for Wetang’ula’s political influence in the region, has now taken an ugly turn following fresh allegations from Kabuchai MP, Hon. Majimbo Kalasinga.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Majimbo accused members of the Ford Kenya party — led by Wetang’ula — of being behind a violent attack on his hotel in Bungoma.
According to Majimbo, the group looted property and caused extensive damage while he was away in South Africa on official parliamentary duties. He directly blamed some members of the Bungoma County Assembly, claiming they had mobilized youths to carry out the attack.

Speaking from South Africa, a visibly angry Majimbo condemned the incident and vowed to “show Wetang’ula dust” in the forthcoming by-election. He said the chaos was politically motivated and aimed at intimidating him for refusing to toe the party line in local politics.
“The people who attacked my property are known Ford Kenya operatives. This is unacceptable. I will return home soon and ensure that justice is served,” Majimbo declared in the video.
He went further to rally residents of Kabuchai to support Eric Wekesa, whom he described as a “true servant of the people.” Majimbo insisted that voting for Wekesa in the upcoming by-election would send a strong message to Wetang’ula and his allies that the people of Bungoma will not tolerate political bullying.
Political observers believe this feud could significantly weaken Wetang’ula’s grip on the Bungoma vote base if not quickly resolved. The Chwele–Kabuchai contest, though local, is shaping up to be a high-stakes political battle that could redefine Ford Kenya’s influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As campaigns intensify, all eyes are now on Bungoma to see whether Wetang’ula can weather the storm and restore unity within his party — or if the internal wrangles will cost him dearly at the ballot box.
