Embakasi East Member of Parliament Honorable Babu Owino has sparked intense discussion after posting a video showing events at the Kang’o Kajaramogi Museum in Bondo, Siaya County. The occasion was the burial of the late Beryl Odinga, sister to the late Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and current party leader Oburu Odinga.
In the video shared on his social media platforms, Owino appears reacting to the loud cheers from Siaya County residents when his name was mentioned by Suba North MP Honorable Millie Mabona.
The applause was so strong that it reportedly forced Mabona to pause her speech briefly, capturing a moment of raw public excitement.
Babu Owino has been at the center of debates within ODM over who should succeed the late Raila Odinga in leading the Luo community.

Some residents in the Nyanza region believe Owino should be given an opportunity to lead, citing his youthful energy and close connection with the public.
Others, however, argue that the community needs a more politically seasoned and mature figure to continue Raila Odinga’s legacy.
Owino’s post and statement, “They didn’t want me to speak today,” reflect frustration and hint at the internal tensions and factionalism emerging within the party.
The episode underscores the broader discussions around ODM’s future leadership as Kenya navigates a post-Raila Odinga era.
Political analysts suggest that such moments are likely to become more common as aspirants vie for influence, signaling possible future clashes within the party.
The funeral of Beryl Odinga, therefore, not only served as a moment of mourning but also highlighted the evolving dynamics and power struggles shaping Kenya’s largest opposition party.
