Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has launched a sharp criticism against Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya following the weekend violence that disrupted Natembeya’s campaign meeting in Kabuchai, Bungoma County.
Speaking on Monday, Savula argued that the incident should not be viewed in isolation, insisting that Natembeya’s choice of venue was itself a trigger for tension.
According to Savula, the Trans Nzoia governor “ought to be investigated” for what he termed as a deliberate act of provocation. He claimed that Natembeya’s decision to hold a rally near what he described as “Wetangula’s gate” was bound to stir emotions in a region deeply aligned with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Savula further accused Natembeya of using the ongoing political campaigns to unfairly attack senior Western region leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Wetangula. He urged the governor to “focus on service delivery” in Trans Nzoia instead of “picking unnecessary fights” with leaders who command significant influence in the region.
The clash, which involved suspected hired goons, has intensified political temperatures in Western Kenya, with various leaders issuing conflicting accounts of what transpired. Security agencies are yet to issue a formal update on investigations into the incident.
