President William Ruto’s political prospects in the 2027 General Election continue to stir debate as analysts and leaders assess how Kenya’s voting blocs may shift under the broad-based government arrangement.
One of the regions drawing significant attention is Nyanza, traditionally an opposition stronghold but now witnessing increased government engagement and development activity.
According to Homabay Town Member of Parliament, Hon. Peter Kaluma, President Ruto could secure a substantial share of the Nyanza vote if the current trend of government involvement continues.
Speaking during a public event in Homabay, Kaluma claimed that the President may receive “over 4 million votes” from the region in 2027, crediting ongoing development projects and improved government–region relations.

Kaluma argued that while internal challenges within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have raised concerns among supporters, the government’s deliberate focus on infrastructure, fisheries revitalization, and youth empowerment initiatives across Nyanza is reshaping political perceptions.
He noted that residents are increasingly evaluating leaders based on development delivery rather than party allegiance.
“The people of Nyanza are already feeling the impact of the projects being implemented here,” Kaluma stated. “If this continues, President Ruto should expect over four million votes from this region. Development speaks louder than politics.”
The remarks have sparked discussions across political circles, with some leaders dismissing the MP’s projections as unrealistic, citing the region’s history of firm support for opposition politics.
Others, however, acknowledge that recent collaborations between government officials and local leaders could influence voting patterns.
As the 2027 race slowly takes shape, President Ruto’s strategy of broadening support through the broad-based government model appears to be gaining traction.
Whether this will translate into the millions of votes predicted remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—the political dynamics in Nyanza are shifting, and all eyes will be on how the region positions itself in the upcoming election.
