President William Ruto, who is currently in the United States of America attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit, has found himself at the center of controversy following a bold declaration that appears to have backfired.
The Head of State, flanked by his Kenya Kwanza allies in New York, made an announcement regarding the fate of a Kenyan police officer deployed in Haiti that has since raised more questions than answers.
While addressing world leaders, President Ruto claimed that officer Kabiru was among those killed by violent gangs in Haiti. His remarks were made in the context of highlighting Kenya’s commitment to international peacekeeping efforts, particularly in the troubled Caribbean nation.
However, back in Kenya, the President’s own administration seems to be distancing itself from the statement.

The Office of the Attorney General has now clarified that it is not aware of any official report confirming the death of officer Kabiru. This revelation has sparked confusion and anger among Kenyans, who are demanding transparency from the government.
The contradiction between the President’s declaration and the Attorney General’s position has left the public questioning whether critical information about the officer’s whereabouts is being withheld.
Matters took a dramatic turn when Kabiru’s family moved to court, seeking orders to compel the State to disclose his exact status and location.
The family insists that they deserve to know the truth, especially after a viral video surfaced allegedly showing Kabiru being dragged by armed gangs along a road in Haiti. The disturbing footage has only intensified the pressure on government officials to come clean.
Back at home, civil society groups, human rights activists, and ordinary Kenyans have taken to social media to demand accountability.
Many argue that if indeed the officer died in the line of duty, his family and the nation deserve a proper announcement followed by official communication from the Inspector General of Police.
For now, the fate of officer Kabiru remains shrouded in mystery. The conflicting narratives from the President and his appointees have placed the Kenya Kwanza administration under immense scrutiny, with critics warning that such contradictions could erode public trust in government institutions.
As Kenyans await clarification, all eyes are now on the Inspector General of Police, whose statement could either confirm the President’s declaration or dismiss it.
