President William Ruto on Sunday returned to the Nyanza region for the second time since the death of Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, drawing a huge crowd at a stadium in Homa Bay County in what many observers view as a significant political moment.
Flanked by senior Kenya Kwanza leaders and key allies from the broad-based administration, President Ruto addressed thousands of residents who turned out for the event, signaling a shift in political dynamics in a region long considered an opposition stronghold.
The President was hosted by Homa Bay Governor Her Excellency Gladys Wanga, who organized a football tournament final that preceded the political rally.
According to videos shared online, President Ruto and Governor Wanga arrived at the packed stadium to cheers from sections of the crowd before watching the match final.

The President later took the opportunity to outline his development agenda, telling residents that his administration is determined to transform Kenya from a third-world economy into a first-world nation through industrialization, infrastructure development, and targeted social programs.
Ruto emphasized unity and inclusivity, insisting that his government belongs to all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliation or region.
He urged residents of Nyanza to support his vision, promising increased investment in the blue economy, agriculture, and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in the lakeside counties.

During his address, the President also took aim at the opposition, accusing it of lacking a clear alternative agenda for the country. He said critics have focused more on attacking government policies rather than offering constructive solutions to the challenges facing Kenyans.
The rally has sparked widespread debate, with political analysts interpreting the massive turnout as a sign of evolving political attitudes in Nyanza following Raila Odinga’s death.
Supporters argue it reflects growing acceptance of the Kenya Kwanza administration, while critics caution against reading too much into a single event.
Nevertheless, President Ruto’s visit has undeniably reignited political conversations across the region and beyond.
