President William Ruto appears to have scored a major political win in his ongoing efforts to reclaim the Mount Kenya region, following a significant endorsement made today in Eldoret.
The move is being viewed by political observers as a calculated strategy aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mount Kenya overwhelmingly backed Ruto in the 2022 polls against the late Orange Democratic Party leader Raila Odinga.
However, the region’s political landscape shifted after the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who later called on his supporters to withdraw backing for the President in 2027.
That call fractured opinion within the region and posed a serious challenge to Ruto’s re-election plans.

In a fresh twist, members of the Mount Kenya community living in Eldoret have now publicly endorsed President Ruto for a second term.
The endorsement was announced after a meeting between UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan and representatives of the Mount Kenya communities in Uasin Gishu County. The group was led by nominated MP Hon. Joseph Wainaina.
Addressing the media, the leaders declared their unwavering support for President Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, terming his leadership as inclusive and development-focused.
The endorsement is being seen as a major blow to Gachagua, who has been working to maintain political influence over the Mount Kenya voting bloc.
During the briefing, community representative Mr. David Kiplagat challenged members to actively participate in politics by vying for elective positions, noting that representation within UDA leadership structures was key to securing long-term influence.
Hon. Wainaina urged Mount Kenya residents in Uasin Gishu to support President Ruto and UDA, warning against being swayed by what he described as tribal leaders lacking a national agenda.
Senator Hassan Omar also encouraged the youth to apply for national ID cards to ensure full participation in the 2027 elections.
The latest development signals a renewed momentum for Ruto’s Mount Kenya comeback strategy.
