Kileleshwa Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Robert Alai has issued a fresh statement following the emergence of CCTV footage showing a confrontation between him and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon. Babu Owino.
The video, which has circulated widely on social media, appears to contradict Alai’s earlier claims that he did not draw a firearm during the incident.
Before the CCTV footage surfaced, Alai had publicly denied allegations that he brandished a gun during the altercation. However, after the video emerged, the MCA revised his account, explaining that the firearm seen in the footage was not intentionally drawn.
According to Alai, the gun—allegedly holstered at his waist—was almost slipping during the scuffle, prompting him to adjust it. He maintains that this action may have been misconstrued as drawing the weapon.

The incident reportedly occurred during a brief encounter between the two leaders. In a statement recorded at Pangani Police Station, Babu Owino gave his version of events, stating that he approached Alai to greet him and those he was with.
Owino claims that the situation escalated unexpectedly, with Alai becoming aggressive, pushing him, and subsequently drawing a firearm.
Owino’s account is said to be supported by witness statements, including those from individuals identified as police officers who were present at the scene. These testimonies have added weight to calls for a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
The dramatic turn of events has reignited debate over the conduct of public officials and the responsibility that comes with holding office. As investigations continue, Kenyans await clarity from law enforcement agencies on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and whether any laws were violated.
Both leaders have urged calm as the matter is handled through legal channels, even as public scrutiny over the incident continues to intensify.
