Homabay County Governor Her Excellency Gladys Wanga has finally addressed speculations surrounding her absence from the State House meeting held in Nairobi today, December 10, 2025.
The high-level gathering, attended by most county governors, aimed to discuss pressing national and county-level issues as well as avenues for collaborative governance.
Governor Wanga, alongside Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, was notably absent, sparking widespread online discussions and speculation about the reasons behind her boycott.
In a statement released later in the day, Wanga clarified that she was fulfilling her official duties in Homa Bay County.
According to Wanga, she presided over the official opening of the Ageno Community Centre in Wang’chieng’ Ward, Rachuonyo North. The centre is a pioneering learning institution focused on delivering quality education to children with special needs.

“As a Government, we are committed to supporting the creation of a safe, respectful, and joyful environment that prioritizes the holistic development of these children in Karachuonyo,” she stated.
Wanga also commended the strategic partnerships behind the initiative, highlighting the contributions of Eng. Willis and Mrs. Lydia Owalla.
She described the collaboration as “a testament to our unwavering dedication to inclusive education and essential services for all residents of Homa Bay County.”
The governor emphasized that the opening of the Ageno Community Centre marked a significant milestone in the county’s mission to serve its residents effectively, particularly vulnerable groups.
Reactions to her absence from the State House have been mixed. While some social media users criticized her for not attending a national-level meeting, others applauded her commitment to local development and inclusive education initiatives.
The governor’s clarification has, however, helped to shed light on her priorities, emphasizing her dedication to community service over political optics.
