The family of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, has finally broken its silence following explosive claims that ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna is a political mole allegedly planted by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to weaken and eventually destroy the party.
The claims were ignited earlier on Tuesday after Raila’s adopted son, Oketch Sella, alleged that the former Prime Minister had privately warned him against trusting Sifuna, describing the Nairobi Senator as a mole within ODM.
Sella further narrated a series of events he claimed angered Raila and strained his relationship with the outspoken party secretary general.
However, those assertions have now been strongly dismissed by Kisumu County Woman Representative Hon. Ruth Odinga, a sister to the late ODM leader, who maintained that Raila trusted Sifuna and never spoke ill of him in private.
Speaking at her Nyahera home while hosting veterans of the multiparty reform struggle, Ruth Odinga described the allegations as misleading and contrary to Raila Odinga’s character.

“The Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga was not a gossiper. He spoke his mind openly and publicly on national matters,” Ruth stated. “Anyone telling Kenyans that Baba held a series of private conversations with them on a wide range of issues is lying and must be called out.”
She emphasized that Raila engaged freely with people from all walks of life and never elevated one individual above others in terms of access or influence. According to her, Edwin Sifuna was equally Raila’s “son” within the party and regularly interacted with him, just like many other leaders.
“No one should claim to have been closer to Raila than everyone else,” she added.
Ruth Odinga also cautioned against what she termed as “sideshows” that distract ODM from its core mission, urging party members to focus on the 10-point agenda of the NADCO report. She revealed that even in his final days, Raila remained concerned about compensation for victims of election-related violence.
In a thinly veiled warning, the ODM stalwart cautioned against attempts to “sell” the party through poorly negotiated political deals ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“ODM is a party of the people, born out of struggle, detentions, and sacrifices. We must not negotiate ourselves into oblivion,” she warned.
Ruth concluded by stating that while she is not opposed to political negotiations, ODM must first strengthen itself to remain relevant and impactful in Kenya’s political landscape.
