Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was notably absent from the United Opposition team’s campaign rally in Malava Constituency on November 21, 2025, but his voice still dominated the event.
In a rare show of political ingenuity, Gachagua addressed residents through a live phone call, drawing thunderous cheers from the crowd that had gathered for the high-profile rally.
The event, led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, brought together a powerful team of opposition figures including former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, and DAP-K Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah.

The leaders had pitched camp in Malava as part of their final push ahead of the November 27 parliamentary by-election.
In a video seen by our newsroom, Gachagua’s voice was met with jubilation as Kalonzo placed the phone close to the microphone, allowing thousands of residents to hear the former DP.
Gachagua began by apologizing for his absence, noting that unavoidable engagements had held him back, but he assured supporters that he remained fully committed to the region’s political cause.

He then made a passionate appeal to the electorate, urging them to elect Seth Panyako as the next Member of Parliament. According to Gachagua, Panyako’s victory would mark a significant step toward strengthening political unity in the Western region.
“Make sure you turn out in large numbers and elect Seth Panyako on the 27th,” he urged. “This constituency and the entire Western region have the numbers. When you unite behind one voice, you create room for real development and meaningful engagement with national leadership.”
His message resonated strongly with residents, many of whom erupted into chants endorsing Panyako’s candidacy. As the opposition team continues its coordinated campaigns, Gachagua’s virtual appearance appears to have energized supporters ahead of next week’s decisive vote.
