Siaya County Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga has issued fresh demands to President William Ruto as talks around a possible political partnership ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to gain momentum.
Oburu, who currently serves as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, made it clear that negotiations with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will not be taken lightly.
In a video that has since gone viral, Oburu stated that ODM’s support in 2027 will be strictly pegged on tangible development in the Nyanza region.
He emphasized that the region must continue receiving major government projects within the remaining period of President Ruto’s term before any formal cooperation can be considered.

According to the senator, Nyanza has for decades suffered political and economic isolation due to its long-standing opposition stance, leaving residents deprived of key infrastructure and economic opportunities.
Oburu argued that any new political alignment must first address the needs of the people on the ground rather than elite political interests.
He further noted that development should not be used as a bargaining tool during election seasons, insisting that the government has a responsibility to serve all Kenyans equally regardless of their political affiliations.
Oburu’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some ODM supporters praising his firm stance, while critics view the demands as early political bargaining ahead of the 2027 race.
