The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader and Siaya County Senator, Hon. Oburu Odinga, has left the country for a short period of rest following months of heightened political activity.
According to information shared by his sister, former Kisumu County Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga, the seasoned politician departed for Dubai to recuperate and regain the energy needed for upcoming party engagements.
Ruth Odinga confirmed that the senator opted for a brief retreat after what she described as a demanding period marked by multiple political appearances, strategy meetings, and party reorganization efforts.
She noted that the ODM leader had been deeply involved in the party’s activities since assuming leadership in October 2025, following the passing of his brother and long-serving ODM Party Leader, the late Hon. Raila Odinga, who died in India on October 15, 2025.
Since taking over the party’s top leadership position, Oburu Odinga has maintained a visible and active presence across the political landscape, attending all major ODM functions and engaging with grassroots supporters in various regions.

His commitment to keeping the party united during the transition period has earned him praise from party members who view him as a stabilizing force during a critical moment in the party’s history.
However, insiders reveal that the intensity of the political schedule has taken a toll on the ODM boss, prompting his family to advise him to take a short break. Ruth Odinga emphasized that the senator’s trip is strictly for rest and recharging, adding that he will resume his duties once he returns refreshed.
Political analysts suggest that Oburu’s brief absence comes at a pivotal time, as ODM continues to restructure and strategize ahead of the 2027 general election. With internal rifts emerging following the death of Raila Odinga, many party supporters are looking to Oburu for direction and reconciliation.
There is growing anticipation within the party that his return will mark the beginning of a new phase of unity-building. Many expect the ODM leader to spearhead efforts to harmonize differing factions and craft a solid roadmap to strengthen the party’s position as the 2027 race draws closer.
For now, ODM members remain hopeful that Hon. Oburu Odinga’s time away will provide him with the clarity and rejuvenation needed to guide the party toward stability and renewed momentum.
