Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has weighed in on the United Democratic Party’s decision to remove Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale from his position as Senate Majority Whip.
Khalwale was replaced by Bungoma Senator David Wakoli following allegations of openly campaigning for an opposition candidate during the Malava Constituency by-election.
However, according to Havi, the move by the ruling coalition is “irrelevant and inconsequential.” The former LSK boss argued that Khalwale had already distanced himself from the United Democratic Party long before his purported dismissal, making the announcement unnecessary.

Havi noted that issuing a public statement about firing someone who had effectively left the party was nothing more than political theatrics.
He urged the Kenya Kwanza administration to redirect its energy towards improving service delivery instead of engaging in what he termed “sideshows” meant to excite the political arena.
“The country is dealing with serious issues. Focusing on petty power struggles won’t help Kenyans,” Havi stated.
His remarks have sparked debate online, with some Kenyans agreeing that the removal was symbolic, while others insisted that Khalwale’s conduct warranted official action from the coalition leadership.
