Trans Nzoia County Governor His Excellency George Natembeya has finally addressed mounting criticism from residents and leaders accusing his administration of neglecting flood victims in the region.
Speaking on Tuesday, Natembeya dismissed the claims, insisting that the county government has been working tirelessly to rescue and support those affected by the devastating floods.
The governor explained that the County Flood Response Team has been on high alert since the onset of the heavy rains that have ravaged parts of Trans Nzoia and neighboring Elgeyo Marakwet.
“Our emergency response teams are fully engaged on the ground. We are committed to ensuring no more lives are lost,” Natembeya stated.
According to official records, the floods have already claimed several lives across the two counties, with many families displaced.

In one of the most recent operations, the Trans Nzoia County Flood Response Team successfully evacuated nine families — among them two newborn babies — in Tembelela area along River Sabwani in Kwanza Sub-County.
Natembeya revealed that the rescued individuals were immediately taken for medical examination before being transferred to Chief Mutende Primary School, which has been converted into a temporary rescue camp.
“We have mobilized medical teams, security officers, and humanitarian agencies to assist the victims. Our priority is the safety and welfare of our people,” the governor affirmed.
More than 9,000 residents have been affected after River Sabwani burst its banks, destroying homes, crops, and infrastructure. The county government has appealed to the national government and humanitarian organizations for additional support to help resettle displaced families and restore roads.
