Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has publicly introduced his son for the first time, ending long-running speculation about his decision to keep family away from the political spotlight.
The moment occurred at Luuya Primary School grounds during the finals of the governor’s popular grassroots football tournament, an event that drew hundreds of residents and local leaders.
In a brief but symbolic appearance, Governor Natembeya invited his son to the podium and allowed members of the public to interact with him.
The move was widely interpreted as a response to critics who have accused the first-term governor of shielding his family from politics while allegedly using other people’s children for political mileage. Supporters at the venue welcomed the gesture with cheers, viewing it as a show of openness and confidence.

Addressing the crowd, Natembeya quickly shifted to national politics, launching a sharp attack on President William Ruto. The governor accused the head of state of undermining the opposition through threats and intimidation, claims he said were harming Kenya’s democratic space.
He vowed to continue speaking out against what he described as wrongdoing in the Republic of Kenya, insisting that silence was not an option for leaders elected to defend the people.
Natembeya also turned his focus to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing him of failing to effectively champion the interests of Western Kenya. According to the governor, the region has remained marginalized despite producing senior national leaders, a situation he said must change.
Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Natembeya called for unity among the Luhya community.
He promised to work towards bringing all Luhyas together so that future political discussions are conducted openly, with the community seated “at the main table” of national decision-making.
The appearance of his son, captured on video and shared widely online, added a personal dimension to an event that blended sports, symbolism, and hard-hitting politics.
