Tension is once again simmering in the political arena as sharp exchanges between senior government officials and opposition figures spill into the public domain.
Accusations and counter accusations have intensified, with claims of intimidation, unlawful arrests and attempts to stifle public gatherings dominating the conversation.
The latest confrontation erupted after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino publicly accused Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo of orchestrating the abduction of his brother in law using officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
In a strongly worded statement shared online, Owino claimed that his relative was picked up on Thursday afternoon by individuals he identified as DCI officers.
He demanded the immediate release of the man, alleging that the arrest was politically motivated and linked to ongoing rallies he has been organizing.
“These rallies are bigger than you and you cannot stop them,” Owino declared, directly addressing Omolo.
The outspoken legislator suggested that the alleged arrest was part of a broader attempt to intimidate him and suppress growing public mobilization efforts.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations had not immediately issued an official statement regarding the claims by the time of publication.

It remains unclear whether the individual in question is being held in connection with any specific investigation or charges.
Political analysts note that the remarks come at a time of heightened tension between sections of the opposition and the government over planned public gatherings.
Recent weeks have seen heated rhetoric surrounding the legality and security implications of political rallies across various parts of the country.
Supporters of Owino have taken to social media demanding transparency and due process, calling on authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged arrest. Some have framed the issue as part of a wider debate on civil liberties and the right to assemble.
On the other hand, government officials have repeatedly maintained that law enforcement agencies operate independently and only act within the law.
They argue that any arrests made are based on credible intelligence and evidence, not political considerations.
Human rights groups have also weighed in, urging authorities to ensure that all arrests are conducted lawfully and that detainees are either charged promptly or released.
They stressed the importance of upholding constitutional safeguards, especially during politically sensitive periods.
As the standoff unfolds, attention is now shifting to whether formal complaints will be filed and whether the DCI will provide clarity on the matter.
For now, the allegations have added another layer of tension to an already charged political environment, with both sides appearing unwilling to back down.
