Fresh controversy has emerged within the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) following claims about remarks allegedly made by the late party leader, Honorable Raila Odinga, shortly before his death.
Raila passed away on October 15, 2025, in India, where he had traveled for specialized medical treatment, a development that plunged the country into mourning.
According to Oketch Sella, who says he was with Raila throughout his final days in India, the veteran opposition leader expressed serious concerns about Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
In a video that has since circulated widely online, Sella alleges that Raila described Sifuna as a “mole” being used by unnamed individuals to weaken and ultimately destroy the ODM from within.

Sella further claims that despite these concerns, Raila chose not to take disciplinary action against Sifuna. Instead, he allegedly opted to observe him closely, believing that his actions—particularly his outspoken attacks on the broad-based government—would eventually expose him.
These claims have sparked intense debate among ODM supporters and the wider political class, with many questioning the timing and motive behind the revelations.
In the same video, Sella goes on to urge Kenyans to support President William Ruto, asserting that this was Raila Odinga’s wish before his death. This statement has added another layer of complexity to an already tense political environment, especially given ODM’s historical position as a key opposition force.
Edwin Sifuna has not yet issued a formal response to the allegations, but his allies have dismissed the claims as divisive and unverified. They argue that such statements risk deepening internal rifts within the party at a time when unity is crucial.
As reactions continue to pour in, political observers note that the claims—if left unaddressed—could significantly impact ODM’s future direction and leadership dynamics. Many are now calling for calm, verification of facts, and respect for Raila Odinga’s legacy as the nation awaits clarity on the matter.
