The Jubilee Party has officially endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 General Election, marking his formal return to active politics.
In a high-profile National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, October 30, at the party headquarters in Nairobi, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni announced that the council had unanimously approved Dr. Matiang’i’s application to vie for the presidency under the party’s ticket.
“We have officially received and endorsed Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s presidential application, and the NEC has resolved that he will be our flagbearer,” Kioni declared amid cheers from delegates and party loyalists.
The decision also saw Dr. Matiang’i appointed as the party’s Deputy Leader, signaling a strategic move to revamp the once-dominant political outfit ahead of the 2027 polls.

The former CS, who served in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, is expected to lead Jubilee’s revival campaign as it seeks to reclaim its place in Kenya’s political landscape.
Addressing party members, Dr. Matiang’i emphasized unity, accountability, and national development as his core agenda, promising to build on Jubilee’s legacy and restore trust in governance. “We are coming together to rebuild our nation on the foundation of integrity, hard work, and justice,” he said.
Political analysts have interpreted the move as Jubilee’s attempt to position itself as a credible alternative to both the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition and the opposition Azimio alliance.
With the endorsement of Dr. Matiang’i, the 2027 presidential race appears set for a heated contest as new political alliances begin to take shape across the country.
