A Kenyan Member of Parliament has been flown to India for specialised treatment after spending a month under medical care at Nairobi Hospital.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula on Thursday confirmed that Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi was airlifted abroad following medical evaluations by his doctors, who recommended further treatment outside the country.
According to Wetang’ula, the legislator fell ill several weeks ago and had been receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital before the decision was made to transfer him.

He revealed that Wanyonyi remains in critical condition but is alive, dismissing widespread rumours circulated online alleging the MP had passed away.
Speaking to Kenyans, Wetang’ula urged the public to be responsible with the information they share, especially during sensitive moments for families dealing with health emergencies.
He appealed for prayers, support, and goodwill messages for the ailing MP, stressing that the family needs compassion rather than speculation.
The clarification comes amid growing concern after sections of social media users claimed that Wanyonyi had died, prompting the Speaker to intervene and set the record straight. As the MP continues to receive treatment in India, leaders and constituents are hoping for a quick and full recovery.
