Wiper Party leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka was on Friday reportedly denied an opportunity to address mourners at Nyayo National Stadium during the State Requiem Mass of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
According to sources close to the event, Musyoka, who was expected to give a tribute as one of Odinga’s closest political allies, was left off the speakers’ list at the last minute. The decision, which allegedly came from the organizing committee under the guidance of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, sparked visible tension at the venue.
Moments after the incident, a visibly agitated Kalonzo spoke to journalists outside the stadium, accusing Kindiki and state officials of humiliating him. “It was painful to be sidelined during the funeral of a man I called a brother and friend,” Kalonzo said. “This is not about politics; it’s about respect and the recognition of the deep friendship we shared with Raila.”

However, hours later, the Wiper leader was granted access to the Odinga family home, where he personally conveyed his condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and the family.
“I visited the home of my brother and friend, Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, this afternoon to personally offer my condolences to Mama Ida and the Odinga family,” Kalonzo stated.
“Raila was a tower of strength, as is Mama Ida. Over the past few days, she has shouldered the weight of the pain of our Nation, our Continent, and even the world with immense grace.”
Kalonzo went on to describe Raila as “the heartbeat of a generation that believed in a just and united Kenya,” vowing to stand by the Odinga family during this difficult period.
He concluded his message by urging Kenyans to honor Odinga’s legacy:
“May God give the Odinga family strength, and may Kenya never forget the legacy of a man who gave everything for his country and his people.”
The late Raila Odinga, Kenya’s longest-serving opposition leader and former Prime Minister, died earlier this week while receiving treatment in India. His burial plans are expected to be announced after consultations between the family and the state.
