President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning the passing of celebrated gospel musician Betty Bayo, who succumbed to leukemia at the Kenyatta National Hospital after a prolonged battle with the illness.
In a heartfelt message shared on Monday, the President described Betty Bayo — born Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua — as an extraordinary artiste whose music carried messages of faith, resilience, and hope that resonated deeply across the nation.
“We mourn the passing of Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, fondly known as Betty Bayo; an extraordinary gospel artiste whose voice carried hope into the hearts of countless Kenyans,” President Ruto stated.
He praised her chart-topping song “11th Hour” as a “powerful anthem of divine turnaround” that offered comfort and strength to many who faced personal trials. The President noted that Betty’s ministry through music inspired the faithful for more than 15 years, reminding listeners to hold on to faith even in their darkest moments.

“Her message was consistent, clear, and heartfelt: never give up, no matter the hour, no matter the storm,” he added.
Betty Bayo rose to prominence in Kenya’s gospel music scene in the early 2010s with her soulful voice and relatable lyrics that spoke of endurance and divine intervention. Beyond her musical achievements, she was celebrated for her humility and openness about her personal struggles, which made her an inspiration to many believers.
President Ruto concluded his tribute by assuring Kenyans that her legacy will live on through her music and the countless lives she touched.
“Her voice may have fallen silent, but her ministry lives on. Rest in peace, Betty Bayo,” he said.
