The family of National Assembly Speaker Hon. Moses Masika Wetangula has been thrown into mourning once again following the passing of his elder brother, Mr. James Mukhwana Wetang’ula.
The heartbreaking news comes only months after the family lost their mother, plunging them into yet another difficult period of grief.
In an emotional statement shared on his official social media pages, Speaker Wetangula expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing his late brother as a humble, disciplined, and wise man whose impact was felt far beyond their home.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my elder brother, Mr. James Mukhwana Wetang’ula,” the Speaker wrote.
He eulogized James as a retired teacher who touched many lives through his dedication to education and service.

Wetangula noted that his brother was not only the firstborn son of their late parents, Mzee Dominic Khaemba Wetang’ula and Mama Anna Wetang’ula, but also a twin brother to Virginia Mulongo Sikhoya and a beloved sibling to the entire Wetangula family, including Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, Fred Wetang’ula, Charles Wetang’ula, and others.
“James was a devoted father, mentor, and a pillar in our community. His legacy as an educator and family man remains firmly in our hearts,” the Speaker added, emphasizing the profound gap left by his passing.
Kenyans online have since flooded social media with condolence messages, offering prayers and solidarity to the family as they navigate yet another painful loss. Many expressed sympathy, noting that the Wetangula family has endured immense grief within a short period.
Speaker Wetangula concluded his statement by requesting continued prayers and support as the family prepares to honour the life and legacy of the late James Mukhwana.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he wrote.
