Siaya County Governor James Orengo has broken his silence over claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is financing political rallies linked to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, firmly distancing himself from the allegations.
Speaking in Kirinyaga County during the burial of a former county senator, Orengo addressed the claims head-on, challenging those behind the accusations to provide evidence.
The governor, who has consistently criticized the broad-based government arrangement, maintained that his political stance is guided by principle rather than external influence.
Orengo stated that individuals who were once close allies of Uhuru during the 2022 General Election, particularly from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), are now alleging that the former Head of State is secretly funding the “Linda Mwananchi” initiative.
The movement has recently gained traction among leaders opposed to President William Ruto’s administration.

In a bold move, Orengo directly called on Uhuru Kenyatta to publicly name those making the claims, urging transparency so that Kenyans can understand the truth.
“If there are people saying you are sponsoring us, come out and name them. Let Kenyans know who is behind these claims,” Orengo said.
He emphasized that neither he nor Sifuna is being funded by any political figure, reiterating that their activism is driven by a desire to safeguard democracy and hold the government accountable.
Orengo has been among leaders opposing what he terms as a weakening of democratic institutions under the current administration.
The remarks come amid growing political tension, with factions emerging within opposition ranks.
Orengo, alongside Sifuna and other leaders, has continued to criticize the government, accusing it of prioritizing political survival over addressing the needs of ordinary citizens.
His statement is expected to further fuel debate within the opposition and among supporters of the “Linda Mwananchi” initiative.
