Siaya County Governor His Excellency James Orengo has dismissed the preliminary police report on the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Honorable Cyrus Jirongo, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation to establish the truth surrounding the tragic incident.
Speaking during Jirongo’s funeral service held in Lumakanda, Orengo expressed deep skepticism over the police conclusion that there was no foul play in the former legislator’s death.
Jirongo died following a road accident along the Nairobi–Naivasha Highway, but the circumstances surrounding the crash have continued to raise public concern and speculation.
Orengo warned that Kenyans should not rush to accept official narratives without proper scrutiny, drawing parallels to the controversial 1990 death of former Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Robert Ouko.

“There is a troubling pattern where police investigations rush to conclusions that do not satisfy the public,” Orengo said.
“We have seen this before in the case of Robert Ouko.Kenyans were told he killed himself and set himself on fire, a story that never added up. Today, we are again being told there is no foul play in Jirongo’s death, and people are not convinced.”
The governor insisted that the police must reopen and deepen their investigations, involve independent experts where necessary, and share their findings openly with the public.
According to Orengo, transparency is the only way to restore public confidence in state institutions and give closure to the family and friends of the late Jirongo.
Orengo’s remarks echo growing calls from leaders and citizens demanding accountability and truth in high-profile deaths.
As Jirongo is laid to rest, pressure continues to mount on investigative agencies to ensure that justice is not only done but is seen to be done, and that no questions surrounding his death remain unanswered.
