President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza administration are under growing political pressure from factions allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
The two opposition leaders, together with other political figures, have intensified calls for Ruto’s removal through the ballot in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
The coalition, which appears to be gaining momentum, has accused the Kenya Kwanza government of mismanaging key sectors and failing to deliver on its campaign promises.
Kalonzo and Gachagua have been vocal in recent weeks, holding a series of rallies across Central and Eastern Kenya, urging citizens to “prepare for change” through the democratic process.

In response, President Ruto has come out strongly, dismissing their criticism as baseless and politically motivated.
Speaking on Monday at Konza Technopolis, Ruto appeared visibly agitated as he defended his government’s record, particularly on the Affordable Housing Project, which he described as one of the administration’s greatest achievements.
In a video seen by The Kenya Times, the President warned opposition leaders against misleading Kenyans with what he termed as “empty threats.”
He expressed disappointment over remarks from the opposition suggesting that they would stop the construction of affordable houses if elected in 2027.
“It is absurd for anyone to claim that they will stop the Affordable Housing Program once they take office,” Ruto said. “This is a project that is changing lives — moving families from slums into decent homes. Stopping it would be a great mistake and a betrayal to the people of Kenya.”
The President maintained that his government’s focus remains on delivering development and empowering ordinary citizens through affordable housing, job creation, and infrastructure expansion.
He further urged Kenyans to ignore divisive politics and instead support ongoing national projects aimed at improving livelihoods.
Meanwhile, political analysts say the renewed unity between Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua could reshape Kenya’s political landscape ahead of 2027. Their collaboration, analysts note, could form a formidable challenge to President Ruto if sustained and supported by other opposition factions.
As the political temperature rises, both camps are now preparing for an intense pre-election season, with Kenyans watching closely to see how the rivalry unfolds in the coming months.
