Homa Bay County Governor, Honorable Gladys Wanga, has responded to allegations that her administration demolished a Ksh 100 million factory. This was allegedly done to make way for the construction of the county’s headquarters.
In a statement posted on her official X account, Governor Wanga refuted the claims. She clarified that the project in question had not received necessary approvals from key authorities.
According to Governor Wanga, the factory’s location near Kabunde Airstrip raised significant concerns.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) had flagged the structure’s proximity to the airstrip. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) had also flagged it. They stated it obstructed the runway.
This posed a safety risk for flights. The governor further explained that the building was not demolished but repurposed.
