Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his political activities in Mbeere North, Embu County, where he has pitched camp for what he describes as a ten-day mission to secure victory for DP Party candidate Hon. Karish in the upcoming November 27 by-election.
Gachagua, who has been actively leading campaign caravans across the constituency, has urged residents to rally behind Karish, arguing that his win would “mark a turning point and send a strong message to those undermining the region’s political voice.”
The by-election has attracted heightened attention as Karish continues to pull massive crowds, emerging as a strong contender against Wamudhende, the United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate. The contest is shaping into a major political showdown, with both sides investing heavily in grassroots mobilization.

VHowever, shortly after leaving the campaign trail, Gachagua was struck by personal grief following the passing of Canon Penina Ciambogo Ngùngì, the mother of Senator Lenny Kivuti. The news was confirmed through a heartfelt message shared on his official social media platforms, where he condoled with the senator and his family.
In his statement, Gachagua wrote:
“My dear brother Senator Lenny Kivuti and your family, I am deeply sorry to learn the passing on of your dear Mother Canon Penina Ciambogo Ngùngì. Please accept my deepest sympathies and that of my family at this difficult moment. I pray that your family, friends and the people of Mbeere find strength to cope with the loss of a dear mother, grandmother, an aunt and a friend to many.”
He described Penina as a pillar of faith, love, unity, and wisdom, noting that her 92 years were a blessing that touched many lives within the church and community.
“May Almighty God rest the Soul of Penina in eternal peace,” he concluded.
The mourning has cast a somber tone over Gachagua’s stay in Mbeere North even as campaigns enter a decisive phase.
