Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence following reports that he was allegedly blocked from flying from Nairobi to Kakamega for the homecoming ceremony of Kisa East Ward MCA, Hon. Aduda Okwiri.
The event, held at Munjiti Primary School, marked the official celebration of Okwiri’s victory in the just concluded Kisa East by-election, where he was elected on a Democratic Change Party (DCP) ticket.
According to DCP Deputy Party Leader Hon. Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah, Gachagua had expressed his intention to travel to Kakamega to join party leaders and residents in celebrating the victory.
It is alleged that the former Deputy President faced interference that prevented him from boarding his flight, claims that have sparked debate within political circles.
Despite the reported obstruction, Gachagua took to his social media platforms to issue a congratulatory message to the newly elected MCA and to appreciate the people of Kisa East for what he termed as resilience in the face of intimidation.

His message appeared to underscore his continued involvement in grassroots politics and his support for the growing influence of the DCP party in Western Kenya.
“Once again, Hon. Aduda Okwiri, MCA Kisa East Ward, congratulations on your election on the DCP PARTY ticket,” Gachagua stated. He went on to thank the residents of the ward for placing their trust in Okwiri and voting decisively in favour of the party’s candidate.
“To the great people of Kakamega County, thank you for electing Hon. Aduda Okwiri,” he added, encouraging the newly elected MCA to serve with diligence, integrity, and attentiveness to the needs of his constituents.
Gachagua also commented on the significance of the homecoming ceremony, describing it as “a great start to service,” even though he could not physically attend.
His appreciation extended to DCP leaders, particularly Cleophas Malala, whom he acknowledged for guiding the party and supporting their candidates through the fiercely contested by-election.
The alleged blocking incident comes at a time when political temperatures have been rising across various regions, with different parties seeking to consolidate influence ahead of future political battles.
Gachagua’s statement has ignited conversations online, with supporters demanding clarity regarding the reported interference, while others view the situation as part of ongoing political tensions between rival factions.
As the DCP party celebrates the Kisa East victory, analysts note that developments around the event may shape future political alignments, especially in Western Kenya.
