Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again stirred the political arena after alleging that President William Ruto is secretly plotting to manipulate the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Monday, December 9, 2025, Gachagua told Kenyans that the Head of State is employing a strategy aimed at weakening the Mount Kenya voting bloc to secure his re-election bid.
According to the former second-in-command, President Ruto’s “hidden plan” involves sponsoring multiple presidential hopefuls from the Mount Kenya region in 2027.
Gachagua claimed that this tactic is designed to scatter the region’s votes, making it impossible for voters to rally behind a single strong candidate who could challenge the president.
He likened the alleged plan to the strategy used by former President Daniel arap Moi, who was accused of fronting Kenneth Matiba in the early 1990s to divide the support base of Mwai Kibaki, ultimately shaping the outcome of both the 1992 and 1997 presidential elections.

Gachagua warned that the same political playbook may be unfolding again, only this time targeting the unity of the Mount Kenya electorate.
The vocal former DP urged residents of Mount Kenya to remain alert and carefully scrutinize any new political entrants who may appear suddenly backed by State machinery.
He insisted that the region must avoid being manipulated through artificial divisions that could weaken its bargaining power in national politics.
Gachagua further emphasized that Kenya’s democracy can only thrive if voters refuse to be misled and remain united in their choices. He encouraged citizens to “stay vigilant, stay informed, and resist any attempts to divide them for political gain.”
His remarks, captured in a circulating video, have reignited debate over succession politics and the growing rift between him and President Ruto as 2027 draws closer.
