Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence just hours after claims emerged that he was expected to visit Siaya County to pay his last respects to the late opposition leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.

According to reports that circulated widely across social media platforms and several news blogs, Gachagua was allegedly scheduled to visit Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County—Raila Odinga’s final resting place—after missing both the national funeral service held at Nyayo Stadium and the final burial ceremony in Bondo.
However, Gachagua has now come out to clarify the matter. Through a post shared on his verified social media accounts, the former Deputy President dismissed the claims, stating that he is currently in Nairobi and not in Bondo as reported.
Gachagua revealed that he attended a Sunday church service alongside his family at the House of Grace Church in Nairobi. In his message, he emphasized his gratitude to God and the importance of worship, quoting the biblical verse Jeremiah 29:11, which reads:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

“My family and I today joined the Christian faithful of the House of Grace Church, Nairobi, for church service. It is always a blessing to be in the house of the Lord. God bless Kenya,” Gachagua posted.
The clarification comes amid heightened political attention surrounding Raila Odinga’s passing and the reactions from various leaders across the political divide. Many Kenyans online had speculated that Gachagua’s anticipated visit would signal a rare show of unity and reconciliation, especially considering the often tense relationship between him and the late ODM leader.
As of now, it remains unclear whether Gachagua plans to travel to Siaya later to pay his respects at the late Raila Odinga’s grave. His latest post, however, suggests that his Sunday schedule was fully occupied in Nairobi.
Political observers have noted that if the former Deputy President were to make the trip to Bondo, it would be a significant gesture of respect and national unity following weeks of political tension and mourning.
For now, Gachagua’s message appears focused on faith, family, and prayer — leaving Kenyans waiting to see whether a visit to Bondo will eventually happen.
