Tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) intensified on Saturday after ODM Party Leader Hon. Dr. Oburu Odinga strongly criticized Deputy Party Leader Hon. Osotsi over what he termed as divisive and misleading statements about the party’s future.
The confrontation unfolded during the burial of the late Beryl Odinga, sister to the late Raila Odinga, at Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County.
In his address, an evidently irritated Oburu Odinga dismissed claims by Osotsi that ODM’s top leadership would soon reconvene to decide on the party’s direction following Raila Odinga’s passing.
Oburu insisted that there is no leadership vacuum in the party and warned leaders against sowing unnecessary confusion within ODM ranks.
“Enough is enough. People should stop going around saying ODM will sit again to decide what to do. We already have a leadership structure in place, and I am working tirelessly to unite our people,” Oburu declared, drawing loud applause from mourners.

Oburu accused certain individuals of plotting to divide the party at a time when unity is most needed. He emphasized that ODM remains intact, functional, and prepared for the future. According to him, those anticipating a leadership crisis are either misinformed or intentionally stirring political tension for personal gain.
“ODM is not falling apart. Even in Raila’s absence, the party will continue to stand strong. We must focus on the future, and that future requires unity,” he added.
The heated remarks have sparked varied reactions among political observers, many noting that internal wrangles could threaten ODM’s stability if not addressed promptly. Osotsi has yet to respond to Oburu’s comments.
The video of Oburu’s fiery speech has already gone viral, triggering fresh debate about ODM’s succession politics and the party’s direction moving forward.
