Orange Democratic Party (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has hit back at President William Ruto following his recent remarks that only the late Raila Odinga could challenge him in a presidential contest.
Speaking during the ODM party meeting in Mombasa chaired by acting party leader Senator Oburu Odinga, Sifuna dismissed the President’s statement as disrespectful to the party and to millions of Kenyans who believe in its ideology.
He reminded Ruto that ODM remains a strong and organized political force that cannot be written off because of the demise of its founder.
According to Sifuna, the ODM party still has capable leaders who were mentored by the late Raila Odinga and who are ready to take up the mantle to challenge for the presidency in 2027.

“Raila Odinga may be gone, but he left behind solid students who can take on anyone politically. ODM is not a one-man show — it’s a movement built on strong ideals and leadership,” Sifuna stated.
He further accused President Ruto of focusing too much on politics instead of addressing the challenges facing Kenyans, including the rising cost of living and unemployment.
Sifuna said that the ruling Kenya Kwanza government had failed to fulfill most of its campaign promises and should prepare for a serious political contest in 2027.
Sifuna’s remarks come at a time when the ODM party is reorganizing itself following the passing of Raila Odinga. The meeting in Mombasa, attended by top party leaders, focused on unity and the future of the party as it prepares for a new political phase without its founding leader.
