Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has found himself at the center of a growing political storm following remarks he made during the burial of Beryl Odinga, the sister of former ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The funeral took place at the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi Museum in Bondo, Siaya County, where family, friends and political leaders gathered to bid farewell to Beryl, who passed away at Nairobi Hospital after battling an undisclosed illness.
During his speech, Kalonzo suggested that the late Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla, who died earlier this year in a helicopter crash, may have been killed comments that have ignited fierce criticism across the political divide.
His allegations, made in front of mourners, were received with shock and have since sparked a heated national debate.
On Sunday, Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei called for the immediate arrest of Kalonzo Musyoka over what he termed “reckless and insensitive” remarks.

According to Cherargei, the statements had the potential to undermine national cohesion and cast aspersions on the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
“I expected the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to have summoned former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to record a statement on the reckless comments he made regarding the death of General Ogolla,” Cherargei stated.
He went on to condemn Kalonzo’s remarks as “insensitive, unfortunate and politically motivated,” adding that they were hurtful to the family of the late CDF and the entire KDF fraternity.
Cherargei further cautioned political leaders against dragging the military into what he described as “cheap and populist politics of hate and division.”
As pressure mounts, it remains unclear whether the DCI or NCIC will take formal action against Kalonzo. The remarks, however, have intensified the political temperature as the country edges closer to the 2027 general elections.
